Polar Bear Pitching is a unique, fun and somewhat crazy pitching competition born and held annually in the City of Oulu, Finland. It is organized in cooperation with the University of Oulu, the City of Oulu, Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Business Kitchen, and other organizations, entrepreneurs and volunteers of the community.
The mission of the event is to help startups to succeed and break down the barriers that block development and growth. The idea is to pitch from an ice hole carved in the frozen Baltic Sea. The duration of the pitch will be determined by the time you enjoy staying in zero-degree water. In 2018 the average length of the pitches was 2 minutes as the outside temperature reached around -20 degrees.
Business Unusual
This year, Polar Bear Pitching will be organized from March 12th until 13th. The theme of the chilliest competition of 2019 is Business Unusual meaning that the event aims to change the participants and their businesses, challenge everything that is commonly held true, and ultimately redefine the future. Just like the arctic circumstances push people to come up with innovative solutions, the super cool stage Polar Bear Pitching offers does exactly the same.

Global Interest
Polar Bear Pitching has stirred up a promising wave of interest globally. This year there have been two official side events – a showcase competition in Leverkusen, Germany and international semi-finals in Tromsø, Norway. Last year the official side event was held in our very own Hangzhou, China in cooperation with Mingle Advisors and Nexuspace.
